PRODUCT DETAILS

Shadow Dancer's Tyrannosaurus Katana Model #1 is a mass produced model that is of superior quality compared even to similar products that are much more expensive. Meticulously designed, the craftsmanship of this katana can be said to be akin to authentic Nihonto.

Model #1's shinogi zukuri (curved with yokote and shinogi close to the mune) blade is forged from 9260 high carbon steel and 51CrV4 spring steel, then vacuum heat treated to produce a durable and resilient blade with a hardness of around 57HRC. This machine polished blade has excellent edge retention and can come with or without a bohi. The addition of a fuller not only decreases the sword's overall weight without affecting the structure and integrity of the sword, but also improves its point of balance.

This katana is equipped with antique finished brass fittings including the tsuba, fuchi, kashira, and menuki. The tsuba for this particular model features a mitsudomoe (three commas), a symbol often seen in Japanese family crests, Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines, and more.

A mekugi secures the blade to the wooden Haichi style tsuka covered with white genuine ray skin and tightly wrapped with artificial silk tsuka ito. Here, options available include the addition of hishigami or hishigami pro to ensure a more consistent and compact handle while also preventing the fraying of the handle wrap against the rougher texture of the underlying samegawa.

This katana is completed by a saya fitted with alloy shitodome and thickened sageo.

The superiority of this product comes from Shadow Dancer's use of a rare technique to align the spines of the blade and habaki for a compact installation. They also use epoxy resin to further secure the tsuka and fittings. Although the use of epoxy resin in these swords are by default, those who favor the katana without can state their preferences in their order notes.
