Shadow Dancer Nova Red Bamboo Battle Ready Target Practice Katana Cutter

Shadow Dancer’s Red Bamboo Katana is a visually striking and memorable piece from the Nova Series which combines contemporary modern designs with flawless traditional craftsmanship.

Its shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade is forged from 9260 spring steel, giving it exceptional flexibility and shock resistance. A bohi removes extra weight from the blade without compromising its structure and moves its point of balance nearer to the hilt, improving the katana’s agility and maneuverability. The heat treated and oil quenched blade is mirror polished for a smooth and flawless finish.

True to its name, the katana has blackened fittings with bamboo motifs, as seen on the iron maru gata (round) tsuba, as well as brass fuchi, kashira, and menuki. The bamboo’s nature to grow straight and tall represents the samurai’s upright virtues of honor and integrity. Meanwhile, its ability to bend in harsh storms without breaking mirrors the ideal of adaptability and resilience. Surviving harsh winters and staying an evergreen, bamboo also stands as a classic symbol of endurance and longevity. Brass seppa and habaki complement the overall design.

One mekugi secures the blade’s full tang to the wooden core Haichi style hilt, allowing for easy disassembly during maintenance. The tsuka is covered in white genuine samegawa with tightly wrapped katatemaki (battle wrap) using red synthetic silk ito for a more secure and longer lasting grip. Historically favored for its ruggedness and ease of repair on the battlefield, this style prioritizes practicality over aesthetics.

Completing this masterpiece is a red glossy oil lacquered saya with large white specks reminiscent of a heavy blizzard, creating a vivid and unique pattern that is sure to leave a lasting impression. The scabbard is fitted with an alloy shitodome and thickened sageo.
