Hanwei Practical Plus XL Light Katana – Sunburst Tsuba Motif

Designed by Hanwei as part of its Practical Plus series, the Practical Plus XL Light Katana blends traditional styling with functional construction for collecting, display, cutting practice, and controlled martial arts training. Its full tang blade is forged from 1566 carbon steel, and a fuller helps reduce overall weight while improving point of balance for quicker, more responsive handling on heavier targets.

Differential heat treatment and clay tempering create a visible midareba hamon that adds character to the polished steel. Traditional mountings include a kikka gata iron tsuba with a sunburst motif, matching fuchi and kashira with Japanese Dogwood detailing, and a dragon menuki.

For added stability, the long tang is secured to the tsuka with a double-pegged construction. The grip is wrapped in white genuine same and finished with tightly woven black cotton tsuka-ito for a classic look and secure feel in hand. A black lacquered saya and black sageo complete the presentation and provide proper storage when not in use.
