Shadow Dancer 1095 Carbon Steel Musashi Katana – Clay Tempered

Vivid, striking, and fully focused on performance, this Shadow Dancer katana is inspired by Miyamoto Musashi, a writer, strategist, and the most famous swordsperson in Japanese history known for his undefeated record of 62 duels and double-bladed fighting style.

Forged from 1095 high carbon steel, this katana’s shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade is differentially heat treated to produce a sharp edge (~60HRC) that retains remarkably well while retaining a more flexible spine (~40HRC) for better shock absorption. Aesthetics-wise, the process yields a stunning sanbonsugi (reminiscent of three cedar trees) hamon made even more prominent through mechanical mirror polishing. 

Following Musashi’s ideology, this katana is mounted with an iron Musashi tsuba in the namako sukashi (sea cucumber openwork) design, prized for its minimalistic design and streamlined profile. It also offers practical advantages, acting as the perfect counterweight, providing natural anchor points for a practical grip, while reducing rotational inertia to maximize the agility for fast and adaptive styles. 

Other premium fittings include blackened brass fuchi and kashira with a rugged stone-wall texture, menuki, and gold-toned brass seppa and habaki for an added luxurious appearance. 

One mekugi secures the full tang blade to the wooden Haichi style tsuka covered in white samegawa held tightly in place using Japanese imported kapok (silk-cotton) ito with hishigami (folded paper wedges) for improved edge alignment, grip, and durability. 

This katana is completed by a glossy vermillion saya—coated using high quality paint with high hardness and durability—fitted with brass shitodome and thickened sageo.
