PRODUCT DETAILS

Perfect for minimalists, this resplendent Shadow Dancer tanto combines simplicity with elegant luxury. Its hira zukuri (flat and ridgeless) blade is forged from crucible steel, giving the resulting blade moderate edge hardness and good toughness. Differentially heat treated, clay tempered, and Sashikomi polished, the blade showcases a stunning hamon that allows enthusiasts to appreciate the raw beauty of Japanese sword art. The addition of a premium bohi trims off any unnecessary weight and optimizes its point of balance.

Mounted in the Aikuchi (合口) style, the absence of a tsuba means that the handle meets the koiguchi to form a seamless and sleek silhouette. This traditional style was designed to prevent the tanto from snagging on clothing, tucking in smoothly and discretely for personal defense or close combat. A copper habaki ensures a snug and flush fit, securing the scabbard in place.

Its name “Kinriko” refers to the gold or pear-skin-style lacquer used for this tanto. This traditional technique involves sprinkling fine gold powder into lacquer to produce a textured appearance resembling the skin of a pear. In feudal Japan, this finish was expensive and labor intensive, reserved only for wealthy samurai, high ranking officers, or members of the Imperial Court.

**Note that a small gap is left intentionally between the tsuka and koiguchi to ensure a smooth, low-friction draw and accommodate expansion from seasonal environmental shifts.**
