Z-SEY Nami Koshirae Wakizashi

This beautiful and elegant wakizashi is forged from smelted steel improved by Z-Sey. Its shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade is differentially heat treated and clay tempered to reveal a notare (large, gentle waves) hamon accentuated through traditional sashikomi polishing. 

Aptly named, this wakizashi is equipped with iron fittings including a maru gata (round) sukashi (openwork) tsuba, fuchi, and kashira with nami (waves). On the fuchi and kashira, the fine, parallel lines curve to simulate rushing waves, punctuated by raised droplets of sea spray. One of the most classical motifs for koshirae, waves represent adaptability, strength, and unyielding momentum. Silver-toned brass menuki, cupronickel seppa, and brass core two-piece habaki complement the overall design. 

A mekugi secures the nakago within the wooden handmade Haichi style tsuka covered in white samegawa with a normal emperor node. The tightly wrapped tsukamaki uses blue ito with high quality hishigami (folded paper wedges) inserted beneath, helping to provide extra support and padding while preventing the ito from shifting and fraying, resulting in a solid, comfortable, and longer lasting grip.

This wakizashi comes sheathed in a black ishime oil lacquered saya fitted with horn koiguchi, kojiri, and kurigata, as well as a cupronickel shitodome and blue sageo.
