Shadow Dancer Premium Musashi Wakizashi with Folded Steel

In times of old, the wakizashi was optimized for agile one-handed and historically used as a secondary weapon for close quarters combat or backup defense. Like its peers, this Shadow Dancer wakizashi is just as deadly and beautiful. 

Its shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides)  blade forged from folded steel is differentially heat treated to produce a sharp edge that retains remarkably well while maintaining a more flexible spine for improved shock absorption. This process also yields a dazzling gunome (waves) hamon made even more visible through Kesho polishing. 

As its name implies, this wakizashi is equipped with a double iron ring tsuba often associated with Miyamoto Musashi, one of Japan’s most renowned swordsperson. Its sukashi (openwork) and simplistic design reflects Musashi’s preference for austere yet astute design, focusing on functionality and agility over visual appeal. Other fittings include blackened brass fuchi and kashira with a stone wall pattern, blackened brass menuki, along with copper seppa and habaki. 

The full tang blade is secured to the wooden Haichi style tsuka by a single mekugi. White samegawa covers the wooden handle and the tsukamaki is tightly wrapped using Japanese-imported black kapok (silk-cotton) ito for a durable and comfortable grip. 

This wakizashi is completed by its luxurious glossy saya fitted with brass shitodome and synthetic silk sageo from Japan.
