PRODUCT DETAILS

The Grosse Messer was a type of single-edged sword used during the Middle Ages in Europe, especially in Germany. This was a version of the regular Messer, which was basically a knife, as the name literally translates. These blades were easier and cheaper to produce, which made them more popular with the lower classes, but they eventually became one of the most popular dueling tools.

This Grosse Messer is a replica of the type that appeared during the 1440s. It is made out of 1075 high carbon steel, a material known for its toughness when used for cutting. It has a darkened battle-hardened finish for visual effect, which also aids in protecting it from rust and corrosion. The hardness levels are 50 HRC, making it fairly flexible, while the extra-wide fuller aids in making it lighter in weight.

The handle is two-handed and made out of ebony wood, secured with heavy-duty rivets. It has an accurately curved pommel with a crossguard and a nagel (extra quillon) that, while aiding in protection, allows for maneuverability.

This battle-ready messer, which has gone through rigorous testing, comes with its own genuine leather scabbard with a metal throat and chape.
