The simplicity of this sword’s design allows one to appreciate the stunning shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length) blade. Forged from 9260 spring steel, the higher percentage of silicon in the steel results in a blade that is prized for its flexibility, resilience, and shock resistance. Heat treated and oil quenched, the blade is mirror polished for a brilliant and highly reflective finish, elevating its aesthetic appeal. 

Aptly named, this katana is equipped with blackened fittings with gold highlights including an iron maru gata (round) sukashi (openwork) tsuba as well as brass fuchi, kashira, and menuki featuring a tonbo (dragonfly). In Japanese culture, the dragonfly is known as “kachimushi,” meaning “victory insect” due to its hunting technique and agility, moving only forward without retreating. For this reason, they were adopted as powerful symbols of courage, determination, and a refusal to retreat. Their role of consuming crop pests has also led them to be viewed as protectors that bring fortune and prosperity. Additional gold-toned fittings such as the brass seppa and habaki add warmth to complement the katana’s overall design.

True to tradition, a single mekugi secures the full tang blade to the wooden core Haichi-style tsuka covered in white genuine samegawa wrapped tightly in place using black synthetic silk tsuka ito for a durable and secure grip. 

This piece is completed by a glossy oil lacquered scabbard with alloy shitodome and matching thickened sageo.
