Synthetic Falchion Sparring Sword

The falchion is a one-handed, single-edged European sword believed to have originated in France and mostly used from the 13th to 16th century. Early forms depicted in medieval art are in the hands of common infantry, but surviving examples, such as the Conyers falchion and a gilded 1560s falchion engraved with the arms of Cosimo I de’Medici hints that it was also a weapon of status.

Designed for sparring and drilling based on historical designs, Red Dragon Armoury’s Synthetic Falchion is approved by the Boars Tooth Fight School. 

This falchion is fully made in the United Kingdom. Its blade is made from a special blend of high-impact polymer. Made from the same material as the blade, the guard is constructed with durability, safety, and aesthetics in mind, using an original 15th century guard as reference. The guard’s ball-ended quillons offer safe body contact with minimal risk. 

Its rubber-like thermoplastic elastomer grips provide a right fit on the tangs and absorb the impact of strikes. 

Completing this piece is a Oakeshott J1-style wheel pommel made from a special blend of polymer and powdered metal, achieving a heavier weight beyond what polymer alone can offer. The pommel’s threaded brass insert also allows for a tight fit on the tang.
