PRODUCT DETAILS

Created by novelist Kan Shimozawa, Zatoichi, 座頭市, is an itinerant blind masseur, gambler, and master swordsman of Japan’s late Edo period, a time when commoners couldn’t openly carry a sword. This humble, compassionate wanderer who defends the innocent from oppressive yakuza clans became a cultural icon through 26 films between 1962 and 1989, as well as a long-running television series from 1974 to 1979. Reimagined in a 2003 film, Zatoichi carries his blade in a shikomizue, 仕込み杖 (prepared cane), a sword concealed in a cane-like mounting.

Inspired by the character, Hanwei’s Zatoichi Stick Sword has a straight blade forged from T10 and differentially hardened to a 60 HRC razor sharp edge, with a more flexible spine at 40 HRC. This heat treatment process also yields a genuine hamon that enhances the blade’s visual appeal.

Both the handle and scabbard are matte black for a smooth and seamless appearance. The sword is single pinned and can be fully disassembled for cleaning or maintenance.

**Note that disassembly must be performed with caution as the habaki is custom fit to each blade.**

SPECIFICATIONS
Tang
Most swords are full tang, and "double pegged" means the tang has two holes for securing with two mekugis.
