PRODUCT DETAILS

The Langes Messer, meaning “long knife” in German, is a single-edged weapon that emerged around the 15th century in southern Germany, Switzerland, and northern Austria.

Originally a civilian sidearm, the Messer was often carried by commoners, mercenaries, and soldiers. It played a major role in Kunst des Fechtens (German school of combat), with dedicated techniques detailed in historical fencing treatises by masters such as Johannes Lecküchner (c. 1430 - 1482 CE) and Hans Talhoffer (c. 1410 - 1490 CE). A common feature of the Langes Messer is the nagel (nail), a metal protrusion from the crossguard.

Fully made in the United Kingdom, Red Dragon Armoury’s Synthetic Langes Messer is designed based on historical designs for sparring and drills. Approved by the Boars Tooth Fight School, it has a blade made from a special blend of high-impact polymer and has an interchangeable guard that has a nagel that can be easily switched to suit both right or left-handed wielders.

A black rubber-like thermoplastic elastomer grip ensures a tight fit on the tang and absorbs the impact of strikes. Completing the sword is an extended 5” pommel, allowing space for even the bulkiest of padded gloves while also providing additional torque when required.

SPECIFICATIONS
Tang
Most swords are full tang, and "double pegged" means the tang has two holes for securing with two mekugis.
