PRODUCT DETAILS

This Practical Tanto from Hanwei focuses on value and functionality, providing martial artists access to high quality swords at an affordable price. This tanto (SH2254) can be part of a Daisho set along with the Practical Katana (SH1070) and Wakizashi (SH2061).

Forged from 1566 high carbon steel, the presence of substantial manganese in the material results in a blade that is tough and retain its edge well despite extended use. The differential heat treatment and clay tempering process Las results in a prominent midareba hamon that adds to the overall aesthetics of the blade. The hardness of the edge is estimated to be around 60HRC while the edge is approximately 40HRC.

For affordability reasons, the fittings for this tanto are of high quality but remain plain, focusing instead on withstanding the rigors of cutting exercises. The tsuka is covered with white same that contrasts with the black lacquered saya and black sageo. Overall, this Practical Tanto is an ideal option for practitioners who want a high quality piece to perfect their technique without breaking the bank.
