PRODUCT DETAILS

Sleek and elegant, this Shadow Dancer sword is mounted in the Aikuchi style which was once extremely popular for secondary weapons like the wakizashi or tanto. Originating during the late Heian and Kamakura periods (approximately 1185 - 1333 CE),  its clean and simple silhouette allows it to lay flat comfortably against the body, under or over one’s clothes.

Featuring a shobu zukuri (ridge line runs all the way to the tip without a distinct tip section) blade forged from crucible steel, it is clay tempered and differentially heat treated to achieve a beautifully balanced tough and sharp blade. The absence of a yokote (ridge line separating the blade’s body from the tip) reduces surface resistance, allowing it to excel at precision thrusting and fluid slicing.

When unsheathed, a copper habaki stands out against the pristine steel, sashikomi polished to accentuate its elegant suguha (straight) hamon. This piece is completed by a glossy black oil lacquered saya that mirrors the minimalist beauty of its tsuka.

**Note that the scabbard fit is not as tight as a katana with full koshirae. A small gap is left intentionally between the tsuka and koiguchi to allow movement.**
