This is the Silver Bonji Koshirae Katana, made as an exact copy of a Japanese replica, following each traditional method to the last step. Its only difference in authenticity is that it isn’t made in Japan like a nihonto.
It is crafted using tamahagane steel, an iron dust turned into a functional blade reminiscent of the ancient days of the samurai. It has been traditionally hardened multiple times to remove all of its impurities and to achieve the right hardness levels to slice easily through various targets.
The blade's edge has then been properly covered with a mixture of clay and tempered with the right amount of heat to make it hard while keeping its spine flexible. The visible difference between hardness is through the hamon that playfully dances across the blade's length. The blade has gone through a very delicate polishing process known as Sashikomi, which involves real stone sharpening with the use of traditional powder.
Its handle is made of a hard wooden core that's been wrapped with real rayskin samegawa on each side. This has further been tightened with real cowhide leather wrap in a traditional hinari-maki pattern. Underneath the cord wrap, there are quality paper wedges known as hishigami that give the entire handle tightness, allowing for a very firm grip.
The fittings on the handle are crafted from cupronickel, a material known for its durability and a color that stays fresh over time. The handle comes with a single wooden peg that holds the entire structure together and can be easily assembled and disassembled like an ancient samurai sword.
The sword comes with its own custom-made scabbard made to proportion with the blade to allow for a very tight fit. It carries an authentic oil lacquer that makes it shine with a bright reflection under any light. The fittings on the scabbard are made out of real and quality horn material, with the sageo cord being made out of silk.
Each sword is hand-forged, which means that some products can vary slightly in their specifications.
