Windlass Bar Mace

This is the Bar Mace, a replica mace weapon that, while not very well-known, appears in several medieval artworks and has been found in excavations, such as those along the River Thames. It is a brute weapon that did not require extensive time or expertise to create but was used for bashing helmets during the Middle Ages.

The Bar Mace is made of steel with four bars. These bars are mounted on a wooden handle that has been wrapped in smooth leather, allowing for a very firm grip. The handle is large enough to be used with one or two hands, and the pommel at the bottom provides balance support and additional gripping options.
