PRODUCT DETAILS

Evoking the serene and harmonious vibes of a bamboo forest, this Shadow Dancer katana has a shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade forged from crucible steel, a material favored for its visual resemblance to tamahagane steel blades. The differential heat treatment and clay tempering process produces a stunning choji (clove buds) hamon made more prominent through traditional sashikomi polishing.

Premium cupronickel koshirae such as a sukashi (openwork) tsuba, fuchi, kashira, and menuki feature highly detailed bamboo motifs. The bamboo, 竹 (take) has been a popular design in Japanese sword fittings since the Muromachi period (1336 - 1573 CE) due to the plant’s straight growth, hollow center, and ability to bend without snapping in harsh storms. For the samurai, this translates to adherence to the bushido code, striving for an empty mind free from distractions, and to adapt without yielding. Complementing these fittings are silver-toned seppa and a Yujo style habaki.

The blade’s nakago is secured between the two halves of the wooden core Haichi style tsuka with a mekugi. White samegawa with an emperor node covers the handle, providing crucial friction to keep the tightly wrapped Japanese cotton ito tsukamaki from slipping. Hishigami pro (folded paper wedges) beneath the wrap further lock the cord in place, preventing the ito from shifting and fraying while also creating consistent, symmetrical hishigata (diamond shapes).

A black glossy lacquered saya with horn fittings, cupronickel shitodome, and Japanese rayon sageo complete this masterpiece.
