Tang Jian Sword Dragon-Phoenix Three-Color Copper

This is the Chinese "Dragon and Phoenix Jian", a short sword based on the smaller high-ranking Tang Dynasty waist blade (618 - 907). The dragon and phoenix represent rank and status in ancient China whilst also symbolizing prosperity and good luck. This double-edged Jian, straight with an eight-sided blade, is made from folding pattern steel, giving it a Damascus-like shape.

Following hand-polishing and clay tempering, the blade's edges are hardened, contrasting the softer core, and it receives a genuine hamon temper line. The handle and scabbard are crafted of wood, with the scabbard further wrapped in tri-colored copper, symbolizing wealth. Its brass fittings, carefully carved with Chinese mythological beasts, showcase an enormous attention to detail.
