Shadow Dancer Nova Enraged Red Japanese Sea Wave Carbon Steel Katana

Combining fantasy-inspired designs and impeccable craftsmanship, this Shadow Dancer masterpiece from the Nova Series exudes fury and rage caged in a katana. 

Forged from 9260 spring steel, the higher silicon content in the material results in the production of a blade with impressive flexibility, shock resistance, and resilience. Meanwhile, its elegant shobu zukuri (resembling an iris leaf) style is known for its enhanced piercing ability with superior cutting and slashing performance. After undergoing heat treatment and oil quenching, the blade is then mirror polished to give it a flawless and reflective finish. 

As its name implies, the brass fittings on this katana such as the maru gata (round) tsuba, fuchi, kashira, and menuki feature turbulent waves that reflect the sea’s wrath. This motif reminds us of the duality of nature, where the sea can be both a source of life and destruction. It also represents resilience, adaptability, and has deep spiritual significance. Some of the waves of the fuchi and kashira are in the seigaiha pattern, an auspicious motif that symbolizes endless peace, strength, and continuous good fortune. Other koshirae include gold-toned habaki and seppa which add warmth and harmony to the overall piece. 

True to tradition, a single mekugi secures the full tang blade to the wooden core Haichi-style tsuka. The handle is then covered with red genuine samegawa and tightly wrapped using black synthetic silk ito for a durable and secure grip. 

This piece is then completed by an oil lacquered saya with alloy shitodome and thickened sageo. The black and red scabbard is reminiscent of volcanic rock and lava, perfectly aligned with the sword’s theme and aesthetic.
