Shadow Dancer Nova Red 1095 High Carbon Steel Polished Nature Motif Katana

This visually striking and unforgettable katana is from Shadow Dancer’s Nova Series, blending fantasy-inspired themes with traditional craftsmanship. Built with enhanced performance in mind, it is perfect for any practitioner or collector of any level. 

Its shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length) blade forged from 1095 high carbon steel produces an exceptionally hard and sharp edge that cuts remarkably well. The differential heat treatment process it undergoes also yields a stunning sanbonsugi (reminiscent of three cedar trees) hamon that is accentuated through mirror polishing. A bohi (fuller) on the blade enhances performance by improving balance and decreasing the sword’s overall weight, allowing it to be more agile and responsive.

This katana has beautiful and intricate brass fittings that are deeply symbolic. The mokko gata (lobed shape) tsuba, fuchi, kashira, and menuki with elaborate plant and bird motifs are set against a seigaiha (ocean waves) background, symbolizing the harmony with nature, peace, good fortune, and the hope for continuous prosperity. Gold-toned brass koshirae such as the seppa and habaki add warmth and contrast to the sword’s design. 

Following tradition, a single mekugi secures the blade’s full tang to the wooden core Haichi-style hilt covered with red genuine samegawa with tightly wrapped tsukamaki using black synthetic silk ito for a durable and secure grip. 

Completing this stunning masterpiece is a deep red glossy oil lacquered saya that has the same motifs, complementing the katana’s theme of nature. Included is an alloy shitodome and matching thickened sageo.
