Shadow Dancer Nova Blue Samegawa 1095 Carbon Steel Bohi Katana

Calm and commanding, this captivating katana reflects the vision of Shadow Dancer’s Nova series, uniting fantasy-inspired designs with impeccable traditional craftsmanship. 

Its shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length) blade is forged from 1095 carbon steel, producing a durable and versatile blade that is optimized for both cutting and slicing. The differential heat treatment process it undergoes reveals an elegant sanbonsugi (reminiscent of three cedar trees) hamon accentuated through mirror polishing. A bohi (fuller) on the blade improves the sword’s performance by decreasing the sword’s overall weight and shifting its point of balance towards the hilt for better agility and responsiveness.

This katana is equipped with beautiful blackened brass mountings with gold highlights and elaborate details. A koi fish and dragon are seen on the tsuba. In folklore, koi fish swim against currents, surmounting various obstacles and challenges, and upon reaching the top of the waterfall, transform into a powerful dragon. This not only symbolizes discipline, perseverance, and strength, it also reminds the warrior of their potential achievement and mastery in life. Meanwhile, flame motifs on the fuchi and kashira reflect both the destructive and purifying aspects of fire. Brass menuki, seppa, and habaki complement the overall design. 

The full tang blade is secured with one mekugi to the wooden core Haichi-style tsuka covered in blue genuine samegawa wrapped tightly in place using deep blue synthetic silk ito. 

This sword is sheathed in a stunning deep blue oil lacquered saya with white flecks, resembling a blizzard in the night. An alloy shitodome and matching thickened sageo complete the overall ensemble.
