Z-SEY Ko-Choji Katana

Z-Sey's Ko-Choji Katana is an intricate masterpiece that combines both aesthetics and function. Forged from Z-Sey’s improved smelted steel, the o-kissaki (large tip) shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade is differentially hardened and clay tempered, revealing a ko-choji (small clove flowers) hamon accentuated through traditional sashikomi polishing. 

This katana’s iron koshirae feature cresting waves, one of the most celebrated motifs in Japanese culture. Depicted on the maru gata (round) sukashi (openwork) tsuba, fuchi, and kashira, they represent adaptability, power, resilience, and unstoppable momentum. Brass menuki, as well as red copper seppa and habaki complement the other fittings.  

The nakago is secured within the handmade wooden Haichi style tsuka using one mekugi. White samegawa with a normal emperor node is used to cover the handle while the tightly wrapped tsukamaki uses blue synthetic silk ito for comfort and durability. High quality hishigami (folded paper wedges) are inserted beneath the wrap to act as an anchor, preventing the ito from sliding or shifting, adding to the grip’s stability.

A stunning glossy black oil lacquered saya with horn fittings (koiguchi, kurigata, kojiri), brass shitodome, and synthetic blue silk sageo complete the ensemble.
