Shadow Dancer L6 Steel Katana: Mitsudomoe Motif – Model 3

The Mitsudomoe is a very popular symbol in the Japanese community today, especially during the era of the samurai. It represents the cycle of life as well as religious beliefs in the Shinto religion.

This katana offers great value; it is an affordable L6 tool steel sword, a material that is often difficult to work with and pricey because of its qualities. The L6 steel strikes the right balance between flexibility and hardness. It has been traditionally clay-tempered to achieve a hardness of 59 HRC, featuring a playful hamon that dances across its edge.

It includes a bohi, or groove, which not only enhances its aesthetics but also makes the blade lighter and capable of producing a louder slashing sound, known as tachikaze. This is ideal for perfecting your katana slash on a cutting target.

The handle is traditionally made from several pieces and is full-tang. It features a wooden core wrapped in real samegawa (ray skin) underneath a tightly wound silk tsuka-ito wrap, enriched with a three-domoe symbol as menuki. The fittings all follow this motif, and the handle collar is in a natural wood color.

The katana comes with its own wooden scabbard, lacquered red with tiny specks to give it a shiny reflection. It matches the sageo cord wrap, which is colored the same as the handle.
