Windlass Medieval Practice Weapon – Two Handed Wooden Sword

European knights, before actually wielding their real steel blades and using them on the battlefield or in duels, honed their skills with safe wooden weapons. This is one such wooden longsword with a two-handed grip that was popular from the 14th to the 16th centuries.

This training sword is made out of fully seasoned steamed beechwood, meaning that it is durable enough to take on other wooden swords edge-to-edge. The pommel and guard have been made with contrasting colors to differentiate them from the handle and blade.

While much lighter than a real steel longsword, this wooden blade allows beginners to take their first steps in HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) training and eventually transition to a real sparring sword.
