Windlass 14th Century Longsword – German HRE Model

Longswords were universal European swords of the Middle Ages that no knight could go without. They came in many shapes and forms, and the one from the late 14th century truly stands out. This is a replica based on a museum piece of a real longsword found in Lake Constance—where Austria, Germany, and Switzerland (Holy Roman Empire in the Middle Ages) meet, and where many large and small battles took place.

The sword is made as an exact copy, and the two can be seen side by side. The blade is forged from 1080 high carbon steel with a historically accurate flattened diamond cross-section, a design that adds stiffness for penetrating mail armor and even gaps in plate armor.

The handle is of a hand-and-a-half format—large enough to be used with one or two hands—and features a wheel pommel and a long crossguard flared at the tips, angled toward the blade. It comes with its own wooden scabbard wrapped in leather.

This sword includes a certificate of authenticity as well as a polishing cloth to help maintain it. It can be used for training based on historical fencing masters such as Fiore dei Liberi, or to simply own a piece of history.
