PRODUCT DETAILS

This elegant katana from Shadow Dancer has a shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade forged from crucible steel, a material chosen for its ability to visually resemble tamahagane blades. Differentially heat treated and clay tempered, the resulting suguha (straight) hamon is made even more prominent through mirror polishing for a flawless and reflective finish. A premium bohi helps decrease the sword’s overall weight by trimming away excess steel without compromising its structural integrity while shifting its point of balance toward the hilt for improved agility and handling.

The blackened iron maru gata (round) kuruma sukashi (radial wheel openwork) tsuba has an array of uniform radiating spokes. This design was often seen during the Momoyama to early Edo period from schools like the Owari, Ohno, and Kanayama. Inspired by traditional cart wheels in feudal Japan, it can symbolize: the cycle of nature, fate, and transient life; Buddha Siddhartha Gautama’s teachings; the Noble Eightfold Path consisting of eight practices leading to enlightenment and nirvana; and the samurai zen mindset of unshakeable mental focus, detachment from mortality, and acceptance of death.

Beautiful silver-toned cupronickel fuchi and kashira depict cherry blossoms, serving as another reminder of the transience of life, nobility, and valor, while the ishime-ji (stone textured) background represents an immovable foundation and stability. Silver-toned fittings such as cupronickel menuki and habaki, as well as brass seppa complement the sword’s design.
The nakago is secured between the two halves of the wooden Haichi style tsuka with one mekugi. White genuine samegawa covers the handle, acting as an anchor for the tightly wrapped tsukamaki using blue silk ito for a comfortable grip.

This katana comes sheathed in a glossy oil lacquered saya with a fine constellation of metallic flakes, reminiscent of a starry night sky. It is paired with cupronickel shitodome and a thickened sageo.
