PRODUCT DETAILS

The Raiden, also known as Raijin, is the god of lightning, thunder, and storms in Japanese mythology. With an aggressive and fierce expression standing on a cloud, Raiden is generally depicted with Fujin, the god of wind who is portrayed as a terrifying demon carrying a large bag of wind.

Inspired by these two gods in Japanese mythology, Hanwei's Wind and Thunder Wakizashi has a daunting appearance with a blade forged from T10 steel. Although this material has properties similar to 1095 high carbon steel, the addition of silicon improves the strength and edge retention of the blade after the clay tempering process. An added benefit of the differential treatment is the prominent suguha hamon that accentuates the appearance of the sword.

As expected, the naga maru gata (oval) tsuba depicts one of the fearsome gods. This theme is carried over to the fuchi and kashira, which has tomoe symbols detailed in gold. These tomoe symbols are often portrayed on Raijin's den-den taiko drums, temples, and shrines. Meanwhile, the tsuka is wrapped in white genuine same held in place with black premium Japanese cotton as the tsuka ito. This wakizashi comes sheathed in a saya with traditional black lacquer finish and black cotton sageo.

This design is also available as a katana (Wind and Thunder Katana - SH5001), making it ideal as part of a Daisho set.
