Windlass French Napoleonic 1801 Cuirassier Sword

During the Napoleonic Wars in Europe, many sword designs were developed to meet the diverse combat needs of the era. The French Napoleonic 1801 Cuirassier Sword was one such design, made to fit the cavalry's need for a heavier, more durable, and more powerful blade usable for strong slashes and deep thrusts. The name comes from the Cuirassiers, a heavy cavalry unit still wearing medieval breastplates, or cuirasses, that charged head-first with their slashes.

This replica is functional and comes with sharpened edges. The blade is forged from 1075 high carbon steel, known for its durability, flexibility, and toughness when used for cutting practice. The design is copied from an actual sword of the time, featuring double sets of fullers on the blade, a straight shape, with a double-edged pointy tip.

The one-handed handle is wooden and leather-wrapped with twisted wire running around it to allow for a secure and firm grip. The handle is a bit narrowed toward the pommel to accommodate a downward cut or slash, and the protective basket is made out of metal.

This 1801 comes with an accurately made steel scabbard that can be attached to the user's belt.
