Windlass Musketeer Rapier

The Musketeers were elite units during the Renaissance and after it in Europe. This was especially the case in France, where this unit was close to the emperor and served as his protective and personal guard. While known for their iconic muskets, they didn't go anywhere without their protective rapier swords, mostly remembered today in stories such as the Three Musketeers.

This is a replica of a historical design. It is a Musketeer rapier from the late 16th century, which was also used throughout the 17th. It is made out of 1080 high carbon steel with an overall length of 46 inches.

The blade is straight and double-edged with a broadened ricasso and three fullers, which makes the center of balance near the hilt for more accurate thrusting actions, reinforced by the mid-rib running all the way toward the tip.

The handle has the iconic swept hilt style with a cup and a long crossguard. This was the most popular type of protective guard useful for the user's hand when not wearing heavy armor. The one-handed grip is made out of wood, tightly wrapped with twisted wire. The handguard fittings are of metal, with parts of it plated with gleaming nickel silver.

This rapier comes with its own scabbard for easier carriage and protection of the blade. It is unsharpened and very useful for reenactments or training, especially when combined with our MainGauche (401348).
