Windlass French Napoleonic Infantry Artillery Short Sword / Glaive

The artillery during the Napoleonic Wars, although positioned at the back, often found themselves in combat, especially when facing an unexpected cavalry charge. This necessitated the use of a short, light, and simple sword—the French Napoleonic Infantry Artillery Short Sword/Glaive. This sword became the norm for many artillerymen in the 19th century, nicknamed "coupe-chou" (cabbage cutter) and inspiring even U.S. models. It was inspired by the early Roman Gladius.

This accurate replica follows the original issue of 1816. It is made out of 1075 high carbon steel, a material with the right level of balance and toughness for a blade of this size. The blade is double-edged with a soft mid-rib running through its center, giving it rigidity when used for cutting or thrusting.

The handle features a solid brass hilt with a ringed pattern and a small crossguard for protection. It comes with its own scabbard with a brass tip and throat, as well as a belt frog that can be used to attach the sword to the user for easy carriage.
