PRODUCT DETAILS

The Ngombe Ngulu is a historical sword originating from Central Africa, notably within regions now part of the Republic of Congo. While its distinctive design has influenced numerous fantasy swords across various media, its existence is far less well-known. Often referred to simply as the Ngulu, this sword is closely associated with the Ngombe people, who have historically wielded it is therefore known as the Ngombe Ngulu.

Primarily ceremonial, the Ngulu symbolized status and authority, traditionally carried by respected warriors and tribal chieftains. At times, the mere appearance of the sword was sufficient to assert legal authority, and in certain contexts, it was utilized in executions to uphold tribal law. Originating prominently between the 19th and early 20th centuries, it holds a significant place in Central African cultural history.

This replica is historically accurate and sharpened for functional use, modeled closely after an original sword now preserved in a museum. Hand-forged from durable 5160 spring steel—highly regarded among sword enthusiasts for its resilience and flexibility—the blade features two distinctly sharpened sickle-shaped edges forming a near semi-circle.

The handle is authentically fashioned from robust rosewood and complemented by decorative fittings, providing both elegance and reliability. Each sword includes a custom-fitted leather scabbard, specifically designed to accommodate and protect the uniquely shaped blade.

Ideal for collectors, display purposes, or practical cutting exercises, this Ngombe Ngulu offers an exceptional and rare opportunity to experience and appreciate a significant piece of African swordsmithing heritage.
