Shadow Dancer 1095 Kiriha-Zukuri Straight Katana – Gunome Hamon | Ready to Ship

Unique and one of a kind, this Shadow Dancer katana’s kiriha zukuri (ridge line runs very close to the cutting edge) blade is forged from 1095 steel, a material with a high carbon (~0.95%) content. Differentially heat treated and clay tempered, the resulting blade has a very sharp edge that is retained remarkably well, recommended for experienced cutting practitioners. 

In line with the sword’s waves theme, the blade features an elegant gunome (waves) hamon made even more prominent through mirror polishing for a smooth and reflective finish. The naginata-hi (fuller) on the blade removes excess material to lighten the blade, allowing the sword to feel quicker and more responsive. 

This katana comes equipped with premium fittings that display the duality of nature. An iron maru gata (round) sukashi (openwork) tsuba with seigaiha (blue ocean waves) symbolizes peace, continuity, and good fortune, while the brass fuchi, kashira, and menuki with an antiqued finish showcases turbulent waves that represent the sea’s power and unpredictability. A copper seppa and habaki complement the other koshirae. 

A single mekugi secures the full tang blade to the wooden core Haichi style tsuka fully covered with white genuine samegawa. Hishigami pro (folded paper wedges) added beneath the tightly wrapped katatemaki using dark blue silk ito ensures a more secure, comfortable, and longer lasting grip.

Completing this masterpiece is a glossy lacquered saya partially wrapped with genuine samegawa fitted with Japanese-imported rayon sageo.
