Hanwei Takeda Shingen Katana – Tiger of Kai with War Fan

As expected, Paul Chen / Hanwei's Takeda Shingen Katana is inspired by Takeda Shingen himself, a daimyo during the Sengoku Period of Japan. Due to his exceptional military prestige and influence, he was also known as the "Tiger of Kai".

This katana has a full tang blade forged from 65Mn steel and clay tempered to reveal a midareba hamon. This type of steel has a good balance of durability, toughness, and hardness, making it excellent for swords, machetes, and more.

Designed for tameshigiri or as a display piece, this katana comes equipped with a maru gata (round) tsuba that depicts Takeda Shingen himself, while wielding a war fan, his favorite weapon. The other side of the tsuba carries the motto of the Takeda Clan, "wind, forest, fire, and mountain", inspired by Sun Tzu. This motif carries over to the fuchi as well, with gold details while the kashira features a gold tiger.

Meanwhile, the wooden tsuka of the sword is covered in white samegawa and the tsukamaki uses black cotton ito. Completing the design is the gold Takeda menuki, silver seppa, and habaki. The blade is then sheathed in a textured red saya fitted with buffalo horn kurigata, kojiri, and black sageo.
