Like all Citadel's swords and knives, their Lotus Katana is also completely handmade in Cambodia.
Designed for cutting practice, the Lotus Katana has a sleek and clean design that allows the practitioner to focus on their techniques. This means the full tang blade forged from DNH7 high carbon steel has a tapering blade geometry from the shinogi to the mune, giving the blade more niku (thickness) to withstand cutting harder targets such as fresh green bamboo without worrying about chipping the edge. As a tameshigiri sword, the blade is solid without a bohi to give it more weight and to have a more forward point of balance.
The high quality maru gata (round or circular) tsuba cut and shaped by hand is made of pure iron and has a deep black patina to ensure its durability while requiring minimal maintenance. Since iron bends instead of breaking upon impact, it is a trait that is greatly appreciated by any samurai. The tsuba also features a lotus motif, an older and simpler style that reflects the sword's nature.
Meanwhile the wooden hand carved tsuka is fully covered with samegawa. Tsuka ito made from Japanese imported black natural silk is then used to tightly hold the ray skin and hishigami in place to provide a secure, comfortable, and durable grip.
This elegant piece is completed by a hand carved lacquered saya with a semi-gloss finish and fitted with buffalo horn koiguichi, kurigata, and kojiri.
This design is also available as a wakizashi for practitioners who are interested in acquiring a Daisho set.
