Hanwei Raptor Katana, Moroha Zukuri – Double-Edged Katana

Designed by Hanwei, the Moroha Zukuri Raptor Katana presents a distinctive interpretation of a historic Japanese blade form while remaining refined and easy to appreciate for collection, display, and controlled martial arts training. Its Kissaki Moroha Zukuri profile features a double-edged tip, a style traditionally associated with Amakuni, who is said to have forged a tachi of this type around 800 AD. The design is often regarded as a link between the older straight Tsurugi Ken and the later curved tachi and katana forms.

The full tang is forged from 5160 high carbon spring steel, giving the sword a resilient, flexible construction with strong edge retention. Fullers run from the end of the edge section through toward the hilt, helping reduce overall weight and improve balance for lively handling. For training with more conventional blade kamae, the spine near the back edge is left unsharpened.

Blackened fittings carry the raptor motif throughout the mountings, including the tsuba, fuchi, and kashira. The tsuka is covered in white same and finished with a traditional tsuka-ito wrap, creating a classic contrast in appearance and texture.

Completing the presentation, the sword comes with a black lacquered saya paired with a black sageo, making it well suited for storage, display, and responsible handling.
