Dragon King Autumn Leaf Katana Sanbonsugi Hamon

This refined piece from Dragon King is the Autumn Leaf Katana. Its shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade forged from 5160 spring steel contain chromium, silicon, and manganese, producing a hard and resilient structure. 

The differential hardening process yields a flexible blade with an extremely hard edge that holds well even with repeated uses, while also resulting in a stunning sanbonsugi (meaning “three cedars”—reminescent of three cedar trees) that accentuates the sword’s overall appearance. 

Additionally, the bohi on the blade lightens the sword’s overall weight, improves its point of balance, and enhances the clarity of its tachikaze (the whistling sound the blade makes when cutting).

Equipped are premium blackened fittings—including the fuchi, kashira, and a maru gata (round) tsuba with ginkgo leaves, symbolizing resilience, longevity, and good fortune. Additional silver-toned fittings such as the habaki, seppa, and menuki add contrast to the theme. 

For additional stability, two menuki secures the full tang blade to the wooden core hilt covered in white samegawa and wrapped tightly with tsuka ito for a comfortable and durable grip. Completing the piece is a black lacquered scabbard with matching sageo.
