Z-SEY Bamboo Koshirae Tamahagane Katana (Clay Tempered)

This formidable masterpiece is Z-Sey's Bamboo Koshirae Tamahagane Katana. Its shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade is forged from tamahagane, differentially hardened, and clay tempered to reveal an exquisite suguha (straight) hamon accentuated through traditional sashikomi A++ polishing by hand using Japanese stones and oils. Performed by specialists, this meticulous process brings to life the detail, depth, and contrast of the jihada and temper line. 

White copper fittings with bamboo motifs adorn this katana, as seen on the tsuba, fuchi, and kashira. One of the most favored designs, the bamboo is revered as it grows upright toward the sky, bending without snapping even in the harshest of weathers. Representing nobility, strength, and resilience, its hollow interior also aligns with the concept of having an empty mind, free from fear, anger, and earthly pursuits. Other complementary koshirae include silver-toned menuki, white copper seppa, and white copper Yasuri style habaki. 

The handmade wooden Haichi tsuka is covered using white samegawa with a large emperor node. One mekugi secures the nakago within the handle, which is tightly wrapped using black Japanese silk ito. High quality hishigami (folded paper wedges) are inserted beneath the wrap to act as anchors and provide volume, resulting in a solid, comfortable, and longer lasting grip. 

Completing this beautiful katana is a handmade black ishime-nuri (stone textured lacquer) saya with horn koiguchi, kojiri, kurigata, as well as white copper shitodome and black Japanese silk sageo.
