Z-SEY Kobuse Crucible Steel Katana

This sleek and classical looking katana from Z-Sey has a shinogi zukuri (ridge line runs along the blade’s length on both sides) blade forged from crucible steel, a material prized for its ability to visually resemble tamahagane blades. Constructed in the kobuse style, the blade’s shingane (softer inner core) absorbs heavy impacts while its hagane (harder outer jacket) forms the sharp edge. The differential heat treatment and clay tempering process reveals the stunning jihada and suguha (straight) hamon accentuated through traditional sashikomi polishing. 

Equipped are premium blackened mountings including an iron maru gata (round) sukashi (openwork) tsuba and ishime-ji (stone textured) brass fuchi kashira. Gold toned brass menuki as well as copper seppa and copper Yujo style habaki complement the sword’s design. 

One mekugi secures the nakago between the two halves of the wooden handmade Haichi style tsuka. The white samegawa with large nodes covering the handle acts as structural reinforcement while also providing traction for the tightly wrapped katatemaki using Japanese silk ito, ensuring the grip is solid and longer lasting. 

A black saya with horn fittings paired with brass shitodome and high quality Japanese sageo complete the masterpiece.
