This Bamboo Mat Katana is the epitome of elegance with a blade forged from Hanwei's own high alloy HWS-25 steel, a very pure material produced in Hanwei's new factory using high tech equipment in metallurgy. This results in a blade that is incredibly resilient and has an excellent edge retention. The clay tempering process also results in a unique and visually striking o-choji (resembling cloves) hamon, giving it an appearance akin to flames licking the blade.
As its name implies, this katana is equipped with a black iron tsuba textured in a bamboo mat design and has bamboos with leaves detailed in gold. This theme carries over to the fuchi and kashira as well. Meanwhile, the gold colored menuki features a pair of sparrows. The tsuka is inlayed with white same before the tight tsukamaki uses black tsuka ito to give its wielder a secure and confortable grip. The overall design of the sword is completed with a saya finished with black high gloss lacquer with horn fittings and black sageo.
This design is also available for a wakizashi, making it a complete Daisho set for any collectors or practitioners.
