Citadel's Bamboo Wakizashi is a stunning counterpart to the Bamboo Katana to become a Daisho. Completely hand forged in Cambodia, this wakizashi's blade is made from DNH7 high carbon steel and differentially hardened to make it stronger and give it a hardened edge that stays sharp for a long time. The tempering process also results in a prominent midareba (irregular) hamon that is made even more visible through hand polishing. The blade also features a bohi that extends into the habaki and nakago to lighten the overall weight of the sword while improving its point of balance.
As previously mentioned, the mokko gata (lobed shape) tsuba for this wakizashi is hand cut and engraved from pure iron. The bamboo motif, a symbol of strength in the face of adversity for samurai along with the stippled pattern or "nanako" is also accomplished by hand, a feat of patience and care by the skilled artisans of Citadel. Additionally, the tsuba has sekigane, metal inserts above and below the opening for the blade made of copper, a softer metal that allows the tsuba to be perfectly fitted onto the blade. As the fit becomes loose with time, the sekigane can be easily readjusted. This detail is typically only seen in handmade Japanese tsuba.
Meanwhile, the wooden hand carved tsuka is first fully wrapped in samegawa and tightly wrapped using genuine Japanese imported silk tsuka ito. This wakizashi is completed by a hand carved black lacquered scabbard with a semi-gloss finish and partial ray skin wrap near its opening.
Note that each blade is signed on the tang with the model and number. A stamped certificate of authenticity is also included.
