Cherry Blossom Koshirae Kobuse Katana

Aptly named, this Cherry Blossom Koshirae Kobuse Katana from Z-Sey is forged from crucible steel. The shinogi zukuri (curved blade with yokote and shinogi close to the mune) kobuse blade is crafted using a unique and ancient technique that combines different steel in layers. Differentially hardened, clay tempered, and Sashikomi (traditional) polished to a grade A, it features a beautiful Mount Fuji style hamon (temper line).

The koshirae (mountings) include an iron maru gata (round) tsuba (guard) and gold plated two toned fuchi kashira (hilt collar and pommel cap) with cherry blossom motifs. The menuki (decorative ornament) is made of gold plated brass while the seppa (washer) and habaki (blade collar) are of red copper.

The handmade Haichi style tsuka (handle) is covered in white normal emperor node same (rayskin) and wrapped with golden brown silk ito (handle wrap) from Japan.

This elegant katana comes sheathed in a black oil lacquered saya (scabbard) with horn koiguchi (mouth of saya), kurigata (knob for carrying cord), and kojiri (scabbard end cap). The shitodome mounted on the opening of the kurigata is made of brass and functions to prevent the golden brown silk sageo from Japan from fraying.

An option for handmade saya is available, but it will require 4 to 6 additional weeks for production.
