PRODUCT DETAILS

Nagamaki swords and Naginata polearms were specialized weapons used by the samurai for taking down enemy cavalry and armored opponents. This Katana replica has a similar hilt to a Nagamaki with a unokubi-zukuri. It is a blade profile formed after smelting down larger Naginata blades into shorter Katanas during the peaceful Edo Period while keeping similar traits. It is made out of 1095 high carbon steel, laminated in the maru (single steel) method for increased durability, and is suitable for powerful sweeping attacks.

The blade is full tang, double pegged for security, heat-treated, quenched, and traditionally clay-tempered to produce optimal hardness with a genuine hamon line. The unokubi-zukuri blade has bohi (grooves). The handle boasts a historically accurate silk katate-maki cord wrap style atop rough rayskin, ensuring a very firm grip. Meanwhile, the scabbard is made of hardwood with a shiny gloss.

Finished with fittings made of alloy, brass, and copper, the sword can be disassembled for maintenance.
