PRODUCT DETAILS

The Nagamaki is a lesser-known Japanese long sword distinguished by its unusually long handle; often as long as the blade itself. This extended grip offers enhanced leverage and better balance, making it ideal for powerful sweeping strikes. The sword you're looking at features a nagamaki-zukuri style: a katana blade paired with a nagamaki-inspired hilt design.

Crafted from crucible steel, the blade undergoes a precise heat treatment and clay tempering process, which brings out a stunning midare hamon; an undulating temper line along the edge.

A bohi (fuller) runs along the blade to reduce weight and improve the sword’s point of balance, ensuring smoother handling.

The fittings include a mokko-gata tsuba (lobed handguard), fuchi, kashira, and menuki, all made from brass and adorned with ornate floral and leaf motifs. The seppa and habaki are made of copper, adding warmth and contrast to the overall aesthetic.

The handle is wrapped in traditional tsuka-maki, with hishigami, small folded paper triangles, placed underneath. These help maintain the tightness and shape of the wrap, providing a firm and reliable grip.

While authentic historical nagamaki are rare today, many having been shortened into katana or wakizashi; this modern interpretation pays homage to their unique design and enduring elegance.
