This Raptor Katana by Paul Chen / Hanwei has a full tang shinogi zukuri (curved with yokote and shinogi close to the mune) blade forged from 5160 spring steel, giving the blade excellent durability, toughness, and great edge retention. Since it is a spring steel, it has a high level of resilience to fatigue, allowing it to be flexible but has enough strength to return to their original shape. This blade design with a distinct yokote provides both speed and cutting capacity.
It is equipped with a blackened naga maru gata (oval shape) tsuba depicting a raptor. This motif is also reflected on the fuchi and kashira. Meanwhile the habaki and menuki are painted gold in color. The menuki is designed to feature several feathers, in line with the design of the katana.
The wooden tsuka is then covered with samegawa and the tsukamaki uses black ito to complement the sword's formidable appearance. Suitable for both tameshigiri or as a display piece, the katana comes sheathed in a black wooden scabbard and black sageo.
