Tonbo Sanmai Katana Limited Edition

Despite being a formidable looking sword, Thaitsuki's Tonbo Sanmai Katana has a refined and graceful appearance. The shinogi zukuri (yokote and shinogi close to the back edge) blade is hand forged and folded to 1024 layers using 1060 high carbon steel for its body while the edge is made from the harder 1095 high carbon steel. Besides the elegant notare hamon, the clay tempering and water quenching process also gives the blade a hardness of 35 HRC for the body and 60 HRC for the edge. The addition of a bohi helps to decrease the sword's overall weight, improve its point of balance, and amplify the tachikaze.

This katana is equipped with high quality koshirae, including the maru gata (round) tsuba made from blackened copper, silver menuki, and copper fuchi kashira, all with a dragonfly motif. The silver dragonfly is hand engraved on the tsuba using a fire blowing technique. Other high quality fittings include the silver seppa and habaki. Two mekugi secures the blade's tang to the rikko (hourglass) tsuka, covered in genuine black same and wrapped using black silk Tsuka Ito in the hinerimaki style.

Completing the katana is a deep purple saya with a matte finish. The scabbard is fitted with silver kojiri, kurigata, and koiguchi along with silk sageo in black and golden brown to give the katana an overall cohesive appearance while giving the sword a tasteful pop of color.
