Boasting superior quality far surpassing other similar mass produced items on the market, Shadow Dancer's confidence in their Tyrannosaurus Katana Model #4 comes from their rare technique of aligning the blade's and habaki's spine for a compact installation. They also use epoxy resin to further secure the tsuka and fittings, but those who prefer the sword without can specify in their order notes.
This katana's shinogi zukuri (curved with yokote and shinogi close to the mune) blade is forged from 9260 high carbon steel and 51CrV4 spring steel. It is then vacuum heat treated to produce a 57HRC blade that is highly durable, resilient, and has excellent edge retention. There is an option of choosing a default blade or one with bohi to decrease the overall weight of the sword and improve its point of balance.
Model #4's fittings are simple and elegant, featuring a blackened iron mokko gata (lobed shape) tsuba and blackened brass fuchi, kashira, and menuki.
The blade of this sword is secured using one mekugi to the wooden Haichi style tsuka covered in white genuine samegawa held in place with artificial silk tsuka ito. For the handle, one can choose to go without hishigami or with the addition of hishigami and hishigami pro. These additions can ensure a more consistent and tighter wrapping of the handle while preventing the tsuka ito from fraying against the underlying ray skin.
Lastly, katana model #4 comes sheathed in a black oil lacquered saya fitted with alloy shitodome and thickened sageo in black and white.
