This Sea Wave Wakizashi is Model #3 of Shadow Dancer's Tyrannosaurus 9260/51crv4 Steel line. Its shinogi zukuri (curved with yokote and shinogi close to the mune) blade is first forged from 9260 high carbon steel and 51CrV4 spring steel. It then undergoes vacuum heat treatment to produce a resilient and durable blade while holding its edge with a hardness of 57HRC very well.
There is an option of adding a bohi that can help decrease the overall weight of the sword and improve its point of balance.
Ideal for any sword collectors or practitioners, this wakizashi is equipped with brass fittings with an antique finish. This includes the tsuba, fuchi, kashira, and menuki with wave motifs.
A mekugi secures the blade to the wooden Haichi style tsuka covered in white genuine ray skin and tightly wrapped using artificial silk tsuka ito. Options here include the addition of hishigami or hishigami pro to ensure the tight wrapping is more consistent and lasts longer as it prevents the cord wrapping from fraying against the rougher samegawa. This wakizashi also comes with a saya fitted with alloy shitodome and thickened sageo.
What sets this mass-produced sword apart from its peers is the use of a rare technique to align the spines of the blade and habaki to bring about a more compact installation - resulting in a sturdier sword. The handle and fittings are also further secured with epoxy resin to enhance its durability. Although this is the default, those who prefer the sword without epoxy resin can make a request in the order notes.
