Shadow Dancer's Tyrannosaurus Shinogi Zukuri Wakizashi Model #5 is a must have for any collector. Despite being a mass produced item, Shadow Dancer is confident that this meticulously crafted wakizashi outperforms the majority of similar products in the market, even those that cost almost 10 times as much due to their in-depth understanding of Japanese swords for over 20 years.
As expected of a shinogi zukuri profile, the curved blade has a yokote and ridge that is closer to the mune (back). Forged from 9260 high carbon steel and 51CrV4 spring steel, this vacuum heat treated blade is resilient, shock resistant, and holds its edge of 57 HRC hardness remarkably well. There is also an option to add a bohi (groove), depending on one's preferences.
This model is equipped with a blackened iron maru gata (round or circular) tsuba and blackened brass fuchi and kashira. Unlike other mass-produced swords, Shadow Dancer uses a rare technique in aligning the spines of the blade and habaki, resulting in a compact installation of the blade collar, adding to the sturdiness of the sword.
A mekugi secures the blade to the Haichi style tsuka which is covered in white genuine samegawa and tightly wrapped with artificial silk tsuka ito. There is an option for adding hishigami or hishigami pro to keep the wrapping tighter and more consistent while preventing it from fraying against the rougher ray skin.
Note that the tsuka and fittings are further secured using epoxy resin by default to enhance its durability. Those who prefer the wakizashi without using epoxy resin can specify this preference in the order notes.
Last but not least, this wakizashi comes sheathed in a saya fitted with alloy shitodome and thickened sageo.
