Unokubi Zukuri Basic Folded Steel Tanto

The tanto is significant in Japanese culture, serving not only as a ceremonial and self-defense weapon, but also a protective talisman bequeathed to Japanese brides and newborn babies.

No matter the purpose, Shadow Dancer's Basic Folded Steel Tanto is a fundamental piece that fits almost any purpose. Simple, elegant, and inconspicuous, this dagger has an unokubi zukuri (blade narrows down like a cormorant's neck) blade forged from folded steel (1060 high carbon steel and T8 steel). This oil quenched blade has a bohi that helps to lighten the dagger while improving its point of balance. Due to the heat treatment used, the blade does not have a real hamon, and therefore features an artificial hamon that accentuates the appearance of the dagger.

It is equipped with an in iron tsuba; alloy fuchi, kashira, and menuki; along with brass seppa and habaki. One mekugi secures the blade to the wooden Haichi style tsuka covered with white real samegawa and wrapped with artificial silk tsuka ito. The blade is then sheathed in an oil lacquered saya fitted with alloy shitodome and thickened sageo.
