Shadow Dancer Unokubi Zukuri S7 Steel Tameshigiri Katana

The embodiment of nobility, this magnificent katana from Shadow Dancer has an unokubi zukuri (cormorant’s neck style) blade forged from S7 steel, a material prized for its extreme toughness and resilience, perfect for heavy tameshigiri. Combined with a bohi that takes off excess weight and pivots the center of gravity towards the handguard, the resulting katana is agile and highly responsive. This katana is heat treated, oil quenched, and super mirror polished for the best visual impact.

It comes equipped with exquisite blackened fittings, including an iron maru gata (round) sukashi (openwork) tsuba as well as brass fuchi, kashira, and menuki with kikusui (菊水) motifs (chrysanthemum and water). Brought to Japan during the Nara period, chrysanthemums are deeply symbolic in Japan as its radial petals are likened to the sun, symbolizing longevity, good health, and perpetual youth. Historically used as the Emperor or royal family’s crest, it was bestowed upon individuals who have made significant contributions. Gold-toned seppa and habaki complement the overall design. 

The full tang blade is secured between the two halves of the wooden Haichi tsuka using one mekugi. White samegawa serves as the foundational covering for the hilt and is tightly wrapped in place with kapok (cotton-silk) ito from Japan. 

This beautiful piece is completed by a glossy crimson oil-lacquered saya fitted with brass shitodome and a matching sageo.
